TM Special Programs
The programs are in six categories. – These are Speechcraft, Youth Leadership, Success Communication, Success Leadership, Accredited Speaker Program and Gavel Clubs. The following is a brief synopsis of each.
Speechcraft: This program can be presented at Club Meetings (great for small clubs) or outside of toastmaster meetings for the public as a way to attract new members or simply as public relations tool which can also be used as credit for the involved Toastmaster coordinators (usually two). The program lasts from 6 to 8 weeks.
Youth Leadership: This program is for young people under 18-years old (usually 4th grade on). It is very popular with grade schoolers once they understand the program and it is usually administered through schools, but also scout troops, church youth groups, etc. In addition to the educational benefits for the participating Toastmasters (again usually two), it is a great community good-will program. Student size should be aimed for 15 to 25 people.
Success Communication: Consists of six workshops, which can be presented quite independently. They operate as seminar workshops. The six modules are: Speechcraft Starter Kit – How to listen Effectively – The art of Self Evaluation – Building your Thinking Power – From Speaker to Trainer.
Success Leadership: Similar to Success Communication but with different emphasis. The six modules in this program are: How to Conduct Productive Meetings – Parliamentary Procedure in Action – Leadership Part 1: Characteristics of Effective Leaders – Leadership Part ll.: Developing Your Leadership Skills – Leadership Part lll: Working in the Team Environment – Improving Your Management Skills
The important thing with both the previous two programs is they come with all the required video support and work books to make the presentations successful and memorable.
Accredited Speaker Program: This can be one of the rewards for all those Toastmasters involved in the outreach programs as long as they are not for Toastmaster audiences. It takes 25 outside speaking engagements to achieve and is equivalent to a Professional Speakers recognition. You can start at any time, but in addition to the engagements themselves, you will need to have arrived at your ATM-Bronze (ALB) to get the award. At least five of the engagements will need some form of accreditation such as an evaluation sheet or letter of acknowledgement.
Gavel Clubs: Gavel Clubs are in existence in many institutions and are affiliated with Toastmasters. You can offer your services to speak or mentor for them. They have similar formats to the Toastmaster Meetings, but the environment is different. They are typically found in Government Institutions such as Prisons where the recipients are non wage earners.
